What should be pack for my child for admission?
There is a limited amount of items needed for your child while they are here. We have a Packaging List (see PDF) to follow when preparing your child for their stay at Florida Palms Academy. We kindly ask you do not pack beyond what is indicated on the packaging list.

When can I call and visit my child?
Once your child has completed the first two (2) weeks of treatment, visits and phone calls are permitted. All visits will be arranged with your child’s therapist and outgoing phone calls are permitted each week. Calls and visits are not permitted during school hours.
Upon admission, you will be provided with your child’s call schedule. Clients are only permitted to call those identified on their call list which is to be completed by you at admission. (See PDF Client Contact List)
Can I bring my child food when I visit them?
Florida Palms Academy does not permit any outside food, candy or drinks.

Will my child’s grades transfer to another school?
Since all coursework taken at Florida Palms Academy is approved by the Florida Department of Education, all courses taken and grades obtained are fully transferable and accepted by all Florida public or private institutions of academic learning.

Will my child be able to go on outings and field trips?
Florida Palms Academy believes in integrating clients back into to community as soon as possible. We require clients to go on outings and field trips to assist in developing and improving basic living and socialization skills. All clients are able to outings and field trips with the program weekly based on their behaviors and safety. Client outings and field trips are scheduled on weekends and when school is not in session.

There are several hotels in the area in which you are able to stay at during your visits to Florida Palms Academy.

How many children are in the program?
Although the census at Florida Palms Academy does change weekly, we can accommodate 38 residents at one time.

Will my child have their own room?
Each bedroom is designed with 2 beds, with the exception of 4 rooms, which have a single bed. Florida Palms Academy assesses each child’s needs prior to acceptance and admission. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee your child will be in a private room.

Will my child be able to attend medical appointments?
Yes. You will be notified of the date and time of all medical appointments outside of Florida Palms Academy. We encourage families to attend the appointments with their child.

Will I be able to participate in family therapy?
Yes. You will be required to participate in a weekly family therapy session with your child. You will arrange these sessions with your child’s therapist.

Can I bring money for my child when I visit?
Since your child’s needs are being met while at Florida Palms Academy, there is no need to bring them any money.

What if my child needs new clothes or hygiene products?
Florida Palms Academy purchases clothing, including shoes, socks, under garments, shorts, pants, shirts, belts, etc. for children on an as needed basis after they are admitted. We also purchases and supply all hygiene products. There is no need to bring these items for your child after they are admitted.

How long can I visit my child for?
Each approved visitor is allowed one visit with the resident per week. All visits must be pre-arranged with the resident’s therapist. Visits are up to ONE HOUR. Visits are not permitted during school hours.

How long is the program?
Florida Palms Academy is a short-term treatment program, averaging a 4-6 month length of stay.
